40 students from Shonan High School (Tokyo) took part in an intercultural meeting at Gaztelueta. A group of 2nd year Baccalaureate students hosted and showed the Gaztelueta facilities to their Japanese counterparts on 27 March.
This meeting has been designed entirely by the students of both schools. Gabriel de Lecea, a 2nd year Baccalaureate student from Gaztelueta and Makoto Takeya, a student from Shonan High School, have been working for several months to be able to hold this meeting at the school.
The main session took place in the Chalet hall and was a great opportunity for them to talk to each other about their respective cultures, all in English. Then, in groups, the young Japanese explained to our students some arts and crafts of Japanese culture, as well as how to write their names in Japanese.
Before the end of the event there was an exchange of gifts between the two schools and, to celebrate the success of the day, they were invited to a Japanese meal at the WOK in Leioa.
The principal of Shonan High School, Katsuji Aiba, made a formal invitation to the principal of Gaztelueta, Imanol Goyarrola, for a group of Gaztelueta students to return the visit in 2021, on the occasion of its centenary.
