The Regional Minister of Education, Jokin Bildarratz, has presented the prizes for the first edition of STEAM Euskadi Saria.
With these awards, the Basque Government's Department of Education wishes to recognise the different initiatives STEAM education and rewarding best practice.
Forensic Sciencewas one of the finalists among the 113 applications submitted by schools and institutions and has been recognised by the STEAM Euskadi Seal of Approval.
The STEAM Euskadi strategy was launched in June 2018 with the aim of promoting scientific-technical education and training at all educational stages. Last February, the STEAM Euskadi Sariak was launched.
The Forensic Science project fosters the development of STEAM skills through the investigation of a simulated crime prepared by the Ertzaintza Forensic Police.
Students put into practice the knowledge they acquire in the different scientific and technical disciplines to analyse the evidence collected at the crime scene and reach conclusions that they defend before a jury of experts. In this way, they experience a more comprehensive learning experience and transform the laboratory into a collaborative space linked to real life.
This project developed by Gaztelueta has aroused international interest and has also been implemented in other countries such as Finland, Poland, France, Italy, India, Australia, Mexico, Canada, the Philippines, South Korea and Japan.
