On 22 and 23 November, Baccalaureate students and families from the school participated as volunteers in the The Bizkaia Food Bank's Great Solidarity Collection.
From very early on Friday morning and organised in shifts, the pupils stood at the entrance and exit of the Makro hypermarket in Asúa (Erandio). At the entrance they offered to help customers, explaining to stakeholders the type of food that the Food Bank needs to fight hunger in the local environment. On the way out, the packages were collected in a container designed for this purpose, and in two days several of them were filled. On Friday afternoon the families took over, as well as throughout Saturday 23rd.
The groups were coordinated at all times by Ireki, a non-profit Youth Association, whose aim is twofold: on the one hand, to carry out activities in favour of disadvantaged social groups and, on the other, to work to spread a greater awareness of solidarity among young people. Gaztelueta students are involved in helping in soup kitchens and old people's homes, during school hours and in leisure time.
