Solidarity is a fundamental pillar in the education of Gaztelueta students. During the years they spend at the school we try to promote their commitment to others, encouraging active participation in the improvement of society.
This year there have been numerous solidarity activities in which the students have participated, especially those in Secondary and Baccalaureate. Some of them have been carried out in collaboration with organisations such as Caritas or the Food Bank.
Also, thanks to the collaboration of the IREKI association, more than 250 different pupils have participated throughout this academic year and more than 180 trips have been made to the centres in which we help. The average participation in solidarity activities of each volunteer student is almost three times during the course.
We collaborate regularly with five different institutions: Sacred Heart Residence (Artxanda), Rafaela María Occupational Centre (Zorrotza), Luisa Marillac Occupational Centre (Arangoiti), Miranda Foundation (Barakaldo) and the Sacred Heart Residence (Aiboa). In other cases, the collaboration has been on a one-off basis, such as the two Food Bank collection campaigns at the Macro hypermarket in Asúa, or the visits to see nativity scenes in collaboration with the Elorduy Residence (Barrika) or to children with cancer at Cruces Hospital (Barakaldo), in collaboration with Aspanovas.
