Gastón García, a student of the 2nd Biosanitary Baccalaureate, has won the Silver medal in the XXXI Basque Chemistry Olympiad.
The Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology of UPV/EHU has today officially communicated the results to Gaztelueta, congratulating the school and extending its congratulations to the students and teachers. It so happens that a fortnight ago, another Gaztelueta 2nd Baccalaureate student, Jaime Aja, won the Bronze Medal at the Physics Olympiad. Both will take part in the national phase to be held in the near future. The exam, which was attended by fifty students representing schools from all over the Basque Country, was held on Friday 23 March at the Leioa campus. The test consisted of 30 multiple-choice questions and the resolution of two problems, for which they had three hours to complete. Gastón, who took part in the Forensic Chemistry Congress which took place in Cambridge last February, next year he wants to study Pharmacy in the University of Navarra.
The Chemistry Olympiad is a programme of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, in collaboration with the Spanish National Association of Chemists and the Spanish Royal Society of ChemistryThe aim is to stimulate the creativity and interest of students in their final year of secondary school. It involves all secondary schools, public and private, that wish to participate, through their students most interested in chemistry, all universities, through the collaborators of the LOGSE university entrance exams, and the two associations that represent more than 15,000 practising chemists. The members of the Chemistry Olympiad Preparatory Commission believe that a better education of citizens and a better quality of life can be achieved by stimulating the updating of knowledge and understanding of chemistry. The programme is not aimed exclusively at those who are going to study chemistry, but is an offer for everyone, rewarding the best students and trusting them to represent our country at international chemistry meetings.
