Yesterday the city of Bilbao saw the celebration of a new Electric car race in San Mamés between different educational centres. Next to the stadium, a 1km circuit was created on which the electric vehicles built for the occasion competed in a race where the endurance of the cars and the duration of their batteries were rewarded. The event was sponsored by Greenpower Iberia and Bridgestone.
The drivers, divided into two categories (11 to 16 years old and up to 25 years old), had designed their electric cars with recycled and low environmental impact materialsThe educational and innovative initiative led from its very beginnings in FIRST RACES by Gaztelueta is a clear commitment to a sustainable future and mobility that is repeated in this electric car race in San Mamés. From this year onwards, primary school pupils will have a subject where it is developed exclusively the Greenpower project.
Through their heads of mobility, Alfonso Gil and Miguel Ángel Gómez Viar respectively, both Bilbao City Council and the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, wanted to show their support for this initiative where sustainability and energy efficiency had a prize.
The teams of GPZ Evo Plus of the Somorrostro Training Centre (F24) y Lastra Racing of IES Sánchez Lastra (F24+) emerged as winners among the teams from schools such as the Instituto Superior Técnico de Lisboa, Madre de Dios school; IES Sanchez Lastra; Lauxeta Ikastola; Jesuitinas and Centro de Formación Somorrostro. The team from Gaztelueta won the Greenpower Spirit Award.
