The ultimate goal of this project is to building electric cars from plastic bottles and other recycled materials. Thanks to the ZINKERS PRIMARY programme, Last year we learned a lot about clean energy and had the opportunity to raise awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals, so we feel more than ready to take on this new project.

After arousing the curiosity of our students with questions such as: How often do we turn the light on and off in class?, Why do we do it, what do we get out of it?, Do we know what happens when we press the switch at one end of the classroom and a light comes on at the other end?We started with the construction of electric cars.

STEP 1: With the help of a KAHOOT!We started the class by going through the different components and looking at electrical circuit designs to identify whether or not they will work depending on how they are assembled, and reflecting on why.

STEP 2: Knowing perfectly the different materials that make up an electric circuit and the function of each one, we are ready to start building our electric cars, which will take advantage of the air energy produced by a turbine to make them move at full speed.

Organised in small groups, each group received:

  • Recycled Materials KIT that we have been collecting over the last few weeks.
  • KIT of electrical components.
  • Plans on the Electrical System and Bodywork.
  • Assembly instructions.

And they have started to work on it from scratch. After two sessions of hard work, our project is ready!

To try them out and show them to the rest of our colleagues we have organised races during the playground.

It was a very fun activity! We have learned a lot about electricity and energyand discovered that electric cars run on electrical energy, which is stored in batteries. The batteries are charged with electricity, which can come from different sources, such as solar energy, wind energy or even nuclear energy. We have also learned that electricity is a clean form of energywhich does not produce greenhouse gases. This means that electric cars are a good choice. to reduce air pollution.
