A Da Vinci has been stolen and officers must examine the scene for clues and evidence. As part of the Forensic Science project run by the school in collaboration with the Ertzaintza , Innobasque and the Faculty of Science and Technology (UPV/EHU), a crime scene investigation was staged in the premises of the Artaza Palace in Leioa. The agents of the Scientific Unit led the operation in which students from several schools in the Basque Country took part, putting into practice the scientific knowledge they had learnt in class to solve the case.
First they prepared themselves so as not to contaminate the crime scene, then they carefully scoured the terrain for any trace of information that might help them with the case.. Inside the building, they examined the rooms thoroughly, found fingerprints and, working as a team (everyone took notes, there was a photographer, a "fingerprint collector", etc.) and following the chain of custody of the evidence, they established hypotheses that later led them to solve the case.
The spectacular simulation of the scene by the Ertzaintza's Scientific Unit ensured that the pupils from the different participating schools got into the role from the very first moment and learned countless scientific practices of this police force.
Many thanks to the Ertzaintza officers for their professionalism and commitment to teach us how important and interesting their work is!
