The second of the Gaztelueta Dialogues of the course featured a luxury guest, Dr. Marian Rojas Estapé, psychiatrist and author of the book "How to make good things happen to you"(best seller in 2019). Presented by the Gaztelueta professor Manuel Feria and through the school Instagram account, explained how our brains work in the face of adversityHe also provided keys to help us grow as people in difficulty.
At the beginning, Dr. Rojas explained how a state of constant alertness or worry such as the one we have been experiencing since March can affect us physically, psychologically and behaviourally, and can manifest itself in the form of nerves, gastrointestinal pain, loss of sleep or even in the form of physiological sadness, depression.
In the face of this, the renowned psychiatrist offered some advice on how to deal with these complicated times and, ultimately, not to break ourselves or our relationships while the pandemic lasts.
On the one hand, it is good to do an exercise in honesty by asking how our individual relationship with the pandemic is going. The virus, analysing it with objectivity and patience, is different in each case. Another way to deal with the virus is to think coldly about how it may be changing us and to put in place the means to limit the harmful effects, such as irritation or pessimism. In addition, it is necessary to make an effort to connect with the good that each day brings, despite the uncertainty. On the other hand, avoiding excess information will allow us to relax and not generate additional anxieties.
Finally, learning to take refuge within ourselves, treating each other well is the key to being able to grow and emerge stronger in these times, where one of the greatest deficiencies is contact with other human beings. The concept of persons vitamin was the icing on the cake of the session, the significance of which is explained in the video, now available in our Youtube channel.
We would like to thank Dr. Rojas Estapé for her kind willingness to collaborate in our task of continuing to accompany families in the education of their children.
