The Meaztegi Golf Club hosted last week the fifteenth edition of the Gaztelueta Alumni Golf Tournament. The event, which has become a much-anticipated annual tradition, brought together more than 80 players from different promotions.
This tournament, which began in 2009 as a way of strengthening ties between Gaztelueta alumni, has gained popularity year after year. What was once a small gathering of friends and colleagues is now one of the most important sporting events for the association, attracting amateur golfers of different levels looking to enjoy a day of sport, nature and friendship.
The Meaztegi Golf Club, located in the picturesque surroundings of La Arboleda, was once again the ideal setting for this championship. Its course, designed by the prestigious golfer Severiano Ballesteros, is known for its beauty and technical difficulty, making this tournament an even greater challenge for the participants. With holes that combine precision and strategy, the players had to show their best to overcome the different tests offered by this demanding course.
From the early hours of the morning, the players gathered at the club's facilities, where there was an atmosphere of enthusiasm and camaraderie. After a welcome breakfast, the participants were divided into groups to start the competition.
Throughout the day, there were spectacular plays and moments full of emotion. One of the highlights were the impressive shots of Anton Rotaeche who won the trophy for the closest ball and Fernando Gallo who won the trophy for the longest drive. At the end of the day Lucho Allende, Pablo Guzmán, Jaime Basterra and Siro Allende were proclaimed champions. with a solid performance all along the route.
In addition to the competitive aspect, the XV Alumni Golf Tournament was once again a meeting and reunion place for Gaztelueta alumni. The organisation offered a closing lunch where trophies were awarded and the most outstanding participants were recognised, as well as those who have been attending the event since its first edition.
