Gaztelueta has been the winner of the 2nd edition of the Zinkers Awards in the Basque Country. This award recognises, for the second consecutive year, the best initiatives in primary and secondary schools in all the Autonomous Communities in the field of energy transition, climate change and sustainability, by the Repsol Foundation.
The Chairman of Repsol, Antonio Brufau, has presented the Zinkers Awards to the winners of the second Zinkers Awards.
edition, at a gala event hosted by the legendary presenter Jordi Hurtado at the Teatro Real in Madrid and attended by primary school teachers Aritz Sevilla and Pedro Mesas.
Aritz Sevilla, a teacher in the first year of primary school at Gaztelueta, has been in charge of carrying out environmental actions with the class, such as the construction of a wind farm from recycled materials, made with his six-year-old pupils, which has allowed them to discover the advantages of renewable energies.
For the evaluation of the candidatures received in this 2nd edition of the Zinkers Awards, a committee of experts in education, pedagogy and sustainability has analysed the deliverables and manifestos made by the students of the centres, the result of a shared reflection where commitments, learning and future actions are included to contribute to a more sustainable planet, and with the idea that it transcends the limits of the classroom, raising awareness among more people and generating a positive global impact.
During the gala, Antonio Brufau emphasised "the purpose of Repsol Zinkers as a leading digital platform and benchmark in energy education and energy transition aimed at primary and secondary schools".
"We have a responsibility to help our young people develop the knowledge and critical thinking that will enable them to be real agents of change in the global challenge we face. We must transform the way we grow economically, our industry, our energy and our consumption habits in order to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. We are facing a new era in which, if we do not achieve a balance between sustainability, security of supply and affordable energy, we will not have well-being on the planet", said Repsol's Chairman.
