On Saturday 21 October, the school held the traditional Autumn Olympiad. On a cloudy but pleasant morning, with a good family and sporting atmosphere, the day opened with a parade around the athletics track, led by the school flag.
After the cauldron had been lit and the Olympic flag had been hoisted at the top of the mast, the various events began: shot put, high jump, long jump, relay and steeplechase. The students were eagerly awaiting the start of their competitions. The main event was the cross country race, undoubtedly the most demanding.
The event was presided over by the mayoress of Leioa, Mari Carmen Urbieta, the councillor for culture, Estíbaliz Bilbao, and the councillor for sports, Xabier Losantos Omar (also a former professional referee), who presented the trophies to the winners. Once again, the Autumn Olympiad has served to unite the Gaztelueta family around athletics and the best values of sport.
