Greenpower Engineers, based in the UK, celebrated its 20th anniversary with this edition. Travel to the UK and experience in situ is the prize awarded to the Black Arrow team for winning last June's regional race at the Navarra circuit. This time, however, they were up against 130 other cars built by teams from England, Singapore, China, USA, Poland and Portugal.
And then it was time: chequered flag, traffic lights on, the grandstand cheering... and off to race. During the intense day, our students lived a unique experience exchanging experiences with the best teams in the world while all the groups worked hard to get their vehicles ready. In the end, three British teams took the first places.
However, back home the Black Arrow team brings a suitcase full of ideas to incorporate into our F-24 and Goblin vehicles.
Driving the electric and environmentally friendly car they have built themselves in such a race is just the tip of the iceberg of this projectin which Primary and Secondary School students work in teams developing STEAM skills (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) through the construction of these vehicles, with which they ultimately compete in a race in which the winner is not the fastest, but the one who drives in an energy-efficient and sustainable manner. In other words, the one who manages to drive the most kilometres without running down the battery. Our teams have so far competed in Bilbao, Muskiz, Gijón, Getxo or Navarre, among other places, as well as participating in events where the students themselves explain the project.
In addition, the students have to find the necessary sponsors and resources to bring their project to fruition, working on communication and sales skills, as well as drawing up a business plan, which they have to prepare and explain in English to the sponsors.
