Since 1957, Gaztelueta has held the Autumn Olympiad, a sporting event created by José Luis Mota, Gonzalo Redondo and Antonio Álvarez, coinciding with the start of sports competitions, with a dual purpose: to encourage students to practice athletics and to create an extraordinary event that would stimulate daily sporting practice. In its first two editions, it was held in the spring and in its third edition it was held on the feast of San Rafael and became known as the "Autumn Olympiad". The first Olympiad was a very modest event in which only two years of secondary school took part, and in its second year elements were introduced which are still present today, such as the torch and the Olympic flag.
The Olympic flame carried it on this occasion Álvaro Martín BellosoThis is the start of another year of this eagerly awaited event. Ignacio Garteiz-Gogeascoa was in charge of bringing the Gaztelueta flag to the athletics track, followed by the Olympic flag, which was accompanied by representatives of the older primary school pupils to the flagpole.
Before the sporting events, the primary school pupils took to the athletics track in an inaugural parade by year group in which the sportsmen and sportswomen are presented to their public.
Each year group then began the actual athletics events, in different competitions depending on the year group, with different relay events, long jump and a cross country race around the school grounds and athletics track.
All the participants received their medals after their effort on a warm autumn afternoon in front of the proud families who were able to come to Gaztelueta to enjoy a classic in our calendar.
