The care and safety of our children are fundamental priorities for any parent. Aware of this reality, Gaztelueta has once again this year offered valuable first aid training for the school's families and all those interested in the subject. This initiative, which took place in two sessions, sought to provide parents and caregivers with the necessary tools to act effectively in emergency situations.
The two sessions were held in a welcoming and participatory atmosphere, where attendees were able to share their concerns and experiences. The training was conducted by professionals specialised in medical emergencies, who began the activity by explaining the importance of knowing how to act quickly in cases of domestic accidents, especially those involving young children.
During the session, participants were familiarised with basic first aid concepts. Topics such as the identification of risk situations, accident prevention and immediate measures that can be taken in case of emergency were discussed. A particular focus was placed on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), an essential technique that can save lives in critical situations.
CPR is a skill that all parents should know. In this session, participants had the opportunity to practice the manoeuvre on mannequins, under the supervision of the specialists. They learned how to perform proper chest compressions and the correct rhythm, as well as the importance of not only acting quickly, but also calling the emergency services.
Attendees were grateful to be able to apply theory in practice, and many expressed relief at learning that in emergency situations, every second counts. Practising in a controlled environment allowed them to feel more confident and prepared to deal with any eventuality.
In the second part, the focus shifted slightly to other common household accidents that can occur with young children. The trainers discussed how to act in cases of choking, a situation that can be especially frightening for parents. Participants learned how to identify the signs of choking and the manoeuvres to perform, such as the Heimlich manoeuvre, on both children and adults.
Other relevant topics such as burns, falls and injuries were also addressed. Parents were surprised to discover how many of these incidents can be prevented with simple safety measures at home, and how being prepared can make the difference between a risky situation and an effective response.
The first aid training offered by Gaztelueta School has been a resounding success, providing parents with knowledge and skills that can make a difference in emergency situations. In a world where accidents in the home are commonplace, having this training can give families peace of mind and confidence. The initiative demonstrates the school's commitment not only to the academic education of its students, but also to the safety and well-being of the whole community. Without a doubt, this training is a positive step towards a safer environment for all.
