In Gaztelueta We have always argued that a complete education must include a human component.Solidarity and service to others. At the school we seek to educate students with values. This means that they know how to look at the realities outside themselves and give their time to others, especially to those most in need.
After two years of difficulties in carrying out solidarity activities, this academic year Gaztelueta is resuming the solidarity initiatives that were suspended in March 2020. Among others, the solidarity initiative has been resumed in the Rafaela Maria Centrein the San Ignacio neighbourhood, where more than 60 people with disabilities go every day. The 3rd year ESO students help one day a week in the canteen of the Occupational Centre. On another day of the week, the Baccalaureate students come to talk to the children about different topics so that everyone can share their experiences and learn from each other.
Another recent initiative is the collection of food for the Little Sisters of the Poor. The Primary students responded very well and brought in kilos and kilos of coffee and hand soap, products that were specifically requested of us. A third initiative that we have in place is the collaboration with the Phidias Foundation. In addition, some students from the last years of Gaztelueta regularly attend after school and help children with educational difficulties to do their homework and study.
In short, it is about accompanying, smiling, listening, learning, helping those who suffer, being sensitive to realities that, although close to us, can sometimes be overlooked. In doing so, we help and we help ourselves, growing and forming ourselves in values. A very valuable learning for life.
