At the end of January the headmaster of the school took part on behalf of Gaztelueta in the STEAM Euskadi Topaketak, whose aim was to publicise and share educational experiences of impact. Consisting of six sessions throughout January, February and March, Gaztelueta was the protagonist in the webinar about Real learning contexts for developing STEAM initiatives.
Imanol Goyarrola, school principal, high school chemistry teacher and project leader, he said in his speech online (from minute 17.28 of the video shown below) the main characteristics of Forensic Science, a multidisciplinary project whose aim is to solve a simulated crime by means of observation methods and forensic techniques, in collaboration with the Ertzaintza's Scientific Unit.
Since its inception three years ago, the project has been attractive and innovative, has not ceased to arouse interest not only between neighbouring schools, but also between schools in various countries around the world.
The initiative, promoted by the Basque Government's Department of Education in collaboration with Innobasqueproposes to address key issues in STEAM education such as the integration of different subjects, the most appropriate active methodologies, scientific culture and critical thinking. It is also a way to give visibility to the 12 finalist initiatives of the STEAM Euskadi Sariak 2020 Awards.
